Raspberry Pi Ltd, a maker of single-board PCs, is planning to list its commercial branch on the London Stock Exchange in June. This is a significant change for the company, which also operates as an educational nonprofit. Following the IPO announcement, Raspberry Pi introduced a new AI board for vision capabilities developed in partnership with Hailo.

The London Stock Exchange stands to benefit from the IPO, as it has seen a decline in its share of IPO funds over the years.

While Raspberry Pi computers are commonly used for educational purposes, they also find applications in industrial automation, smart homes, and various professional settings.

According to Raspberry Pi Foundation Chief Executive Philip Colligan, the IPO aims to secure growth and impact for both the Foundation and the commercial company. Despite this change, the foundation and commercial branch will remain separate entities.

Hailo kit brings AI to Raspberry Pi

Raspberry Pi recently announced a collaboration with Hailo to release an AI kit for the Raspberry Pi. Priced at $70, this kit includes a Raspberry Pi 5 computer with an M.2 HAT+ connector to a Hailo-8L AI accelerator module.

This partnership with Hailo allows industrial customers to integrate AI into their solutions in a cost-effective and power-efficient manner. For enthusiasts, the AI Kit offers a way to enhance creative projects with AI capabilities.

The Raspberry Pi AI kit is capable of running neural networks for object detection, face recognition, and other vision-related tasks. It can analyze video files for inference, providing customization options for smart home setups and manufacturing processes. Additionally, it is compatible with both first- and third-party cameras.

Raspberry Pi has simplified the integration of the camera subsystem with the AI framework, making it easier to create AI-based vision applications. This enables the development of advanced AI applications in just a few hundred lines of C++ code.

The Raspberry Pi AI kit is available through Raspberry Pi Approved Resellers globally.

roosho has contacted Raspberry Pi for more details on the AI kit and the IPO.
